This blog assignment is my third and it is about a poem called 'The Loner'.
By the way, sorry for the late submission.
What is my inpression of the boy (The Loner)?
I think that the boy feels insecure. From the line 'he leans against the playground wall,' we know that the wall acts as an emotional support as well as security. This suggests that he is feeling insecure. I also think that boy is in need of friends as even though he leans against the playground wall 'doing boredom-beating tricks,' he does so in a hope that the children invite him and be his friends. We know this as he 'never plays' according to the poem. Therefore, I feel that the boy, or otherwise known as The Loner, feels insecure and is in need of friends.
What is my impression of the children?
My impression of he children is that they are very mean and selfish. The line 'in slow huddled groups, low talking,' means that the children are whispering among themselves about him, mos proberbly something bad about him. It is mean of them to do gossip about him in their own familiar cliques. The children do not want to invite the boy to play with them, instead they hang out with only their own friends.
Overall, I feel that both the children and the boy are stubborn. This is evident from the line 'and neither he nor we will yield' which means that boh parties do not want to give in.
This is my first Literature blog post:
1) Do you sympathize with The Joker?
I have done some research of The Joker's origin. I found out that The Joker was originally an engineer at a chemical plant, who quited his job to become a stand-up comedian, but failed misrebly. In order to suppport his pregnant wife and unborn child, he agreed to help two criminals break into the plant where he had previously worked. During the planning, he was contacted by police that his pregnant wife and unborn child were killed in a household accident.
He tried to back out from the plan but is forced into keeping his promise by the two criminals. The two criminals were killed by security when they entered the plant. As The Joker tried to escape, he was confronted by Batman. In fear, he leaped over a rail and fell into a vat of chemicals. He emerged with bleached skin, ruby red lips, bright green hair and a permanant grin. This caused him to have an identity as The Joker.
Though he became a killer due to the various situations he faced, I do not sympathize with him. His background might have been very scary and dificult for him to digest all at once. The death of his beloved wife and unborn child and also his own transformation from a once normal engineer to The Joker, it does not give him the right to take away precious lives. He killed men, women and even children.
Overall, I do not sympathize with The Joker. The reason being that The Joker was someone who was wanted by many people and also feared by many. Though The Joker and Batman both have many similarities, their intentions, especially The Joker's, which is bad, has led me to this conclusion of not sympathaizing with the him.
2) What have you learnt from this lesson?
I have learnt countless things from this lesson. I have learnt to look at a person from different angles and also that every human being has a bright as well as dark side. The person has a choice to choose the side of himself which he wants to be represented with, be it the good or bad side. I have realised that first impressions do count but that we should not conclude on a person's character with just their first impressions.
Finally, I have learnt that both a hero like Batman and a villain like The Joker can have similarities between them. Even then, it is astonoishing that we can distinguish the villain from the hero!

This is supposed to be my second literature assignment. Here is the question:
• Write one paragraph each for why Jack and the Giant both deserve our sympathy.
I sympathize with Jack for a few reasons. Firstly, Jack has to work hard at a very young age due to poverty and also because his mother is a widow but, no one wants to employ him. Hence, for his family to survive, they had to sell their one and only cow, which gave them milk every day until that fateful day which it did not give milk, to start a shop with the money they get. The other reason for me to sympathize with Jack is because he had to starve one whole day as he did not sell the cow for money but beans, magical beans. He had started to steal from the Giant’s house as he was tempted to do so. He and his mother badly needed money to survive as they were extremely poor. Though stealing might be bad, we have to take into consideration his state and situation which had caused him to steal. Hence, I still do sympathize with him.
I also sympathize with the Giant. He certainly did not deserve to fall to his death because of Jack, and his greediness. Though the Giant loved to devour English boys to please his appetite, I feel that he is quite a kind giant. Jack had stolen thrice from the Giant thinking that the Giant was very rich and so would not care if some of his wealth was stolen. He was very wrong indeed. The stolen items were the Giant’s properties which were earned by him after his hard work. Jack on the other hand had done nothing to earn the properties. He simply stole them. Hence, I sympathize with the Giant.
