This blog assignment is my third and it is about a poem called 'The Loner'.
By the way, sorry for the late submission.
What is my inpression of the boy (The Loner)?
I think that the boy feels insecure. From the line 'he leans against the playground wall,' we know that the wall acts as an emotional support as well as security. This suggests that he is feeling insecure. I also think that boy is in need of friends as even though he leans against the playground wall 'doing boredom-beating tricks,' he does so in a hope that the children invite him and be his friends. We know this as he 'never plays' according to the poem. Therefore, I feel that the boy, or otherwise known as The Loner, feels insecure and is in need of friends.
What is my impression of the children?
My impression of he children is that they are very mean and selfish. The line 'in slow huddled groups, low talking,' means that the children are whispering among themselves about him, mos proberbly something bad about him. It is mean of them to do gossip about him in their own familiar cliques. The children do not want to invite the boy to play with them, instead they hang out with only their own friends.
Overall, I feel that both the children and the boy are stubborn. This is evident from the line 'and neither he nor we will yield' which means that boh parties do not want to give in.
